The cobwebs featured here illustrate the passing years that the tapes sat on dusty webbed shelves in an actual dark and dank storage space. They are currently exhumed with a new introduction and effects created by James McKee and Ken Heller, hence the haunting guide, hence footsteps in the dust. The stories were first brought to radio life half a century ago during KPFA sessions of Black Mass then after a time they were abandoned, put to rest and remained so until a request came from KCRW, in Santa Monica, by their station manager Ruth Seymour, for re-broadcast on her station. Our obedient host for the series leads us down the hallways and alcoves where he selects a few stories for disinterment and our entertainment. The original telling of the tales remain untouched except for some acoustical refreshment of Poe's Tell Tale Heart and Lord Dunsany's Lobster Salad.
