THE MOON OF THE CARIBBEES
by Eugene O'Neill
The S.S. Glencairn is anchored off a Caribbean Island. A native chant is circulating endlessly through the tropical night. A full moon wraps the freighter in a "cocoon of moonlight." The men troubled by the cant try to drown it out. They talk and sing, they drink and revel in the forecastle with native women. They dance on the deck & fight and are scattered by the ship's officers. Their destiny is what the sea brings them. Finally only the chant remains, "the mood of the moonlight made visible."
